One of my absolute favourite things to do is to have a leisurely lunch in the countryside – for me, living in Stanford, that’s usually a 5-minute walk or drive to some of the best restaurants in the country. I have spent some heavenly afternoons having lunch in Stanford – laughing with friends, enjoying the unbelievably good food, and pairing it with Stanford’s breathtaking views.
The food art on the plate is so beautiful, and the views from the restaurants so inspiring, that we decided these views need frames! So we asked 11 local artists to decorate wooden frames in their unique style, and they’ll be placed around Stanford from 1 December! So the next time you’re in Stanford having lunch, take a photo with one of the frames and share it on your Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #StanfordFramed. We’ll keep our eyes out for these great moments and share it on the official Stanford Tourism platforms! There are weekly prizes up for grabs, so check our Facebook and Website for more info in the upcoming weeks.

Not many people know this, but Stanford has superb slow organic food and is fast becoming one of the top foodie destinations in the country. There are many top restaurants to choose from: Barke Restaurant, Graze Slow Food Café, Havercroft’s, Mosaic Lagoon Café, Madre’s Kitchen, Marianas, Panorama Restaurant at Bellavista, Springfontein Eats, The Stanford Harvest, The Stanford Table, and The Tasting Room. Some restaurants get booked out well in advance so please book to avoid disappointment.

If coffee shops are more your thing we have Boschrivier Coffee Shop, Coffee Corner, and Evergrine Farm Stall. Prefer a pub lunch or dinner while watching the rugby? We have KC’s, and Vine Restaurant. Taste some craft beer with your lunch at the Birkenhead Brewery and artisan ice-cream at Don Gelato. Try the award-winning cheeses at Klein River Cheese Farm and stay for a picnic.

Or if you prefer to do your own thing, pack your own picnic basket with the delicious wholesome meals and treats available at the Saturday Morning Market or Graze Slow Food Market on a Wednesday. Find a great spot along Die Wandelpad or take a cruise down the river with one of our river boats: African Queen, River Rat or Platanna.

So next time sometime asks you, “Lunch?” do yourself a favour and answer, “Stanford”!

We also have some great events to keep you entertained this December. Come and chill out in Stanford while you do your Christmas shopping at the Stanford Street Festival on 14 December. Buy homemade gifts from a country market and enjoy a weekend away.

That’s all for now, folks. And remember, if anyone asks where you got your news, tell them you heard it through the Grapevine!
