De Kleine Rivers Valey House

Church Street Stanford 7210

The original farmhouse around which the village of Stanford was later developed. Built in 1785 and later owned by Sir Robert Stanford, this historic home remains a significant landmark and is still known today as De Kleine Riviers Valey House. The house famously hosted Lady Anne Barnard in 1798 during her travels through the Cape. Survivors of the HMS Birkenhead shipwreck were cared for here after the tragedy. It features Traditional Cape-style architecture, a Victorian stoep (veranda) and central location within walking distance of Stanford’s shops and restaurants.
